Calling to missions is often an enigmatic and personal subject. How do you know you if you are called to be a missionary? Do you have to be called to serve overseas? In this video, an experienced missionary shares his perspective on God’s calling to missions.
How did you know you were called to be a missionary?
How did I know that I was called to do missions?
Well, I would say I didn’t know, it was a process of going forward, and being open for God to do anything he wanted in my life. I didn’t think I was going to be a missionary, or necessarily called. And maybe I wouldn’t like the place I’m going to, maybe I wouldn’t like the language. I didn’t know.
So when God brought before my path this understanding, Hey, I could go some place for six months, and not have to learn any other language, English would work, that got me on the journey to say, Hey, I could do this. It was later, then, that I really felt God was putting on my heart to really make this longer-term, even career. At that point, then I had to address the question, Well, where does God really want me to be, on a longer-term basis.
Being caught up in all the details, I think, trips us up. And God will just guide us in the place. And we’ll end up, not where we planned, necessarily, but it will be right where God wants us to be.
