My journey to the mission field #001

I knew that God had put a call on my life to be involved with missions somehow, and I had a big desire to travel, but also to travel with a purpose, and to be used by God.

However, in college, I didn’t really know what I wanted to study. And so when people would ask me, I would tell them, I don’t know, I want to live on a ship, just to get them to leave me alone.

Well, that went on for awhile, and then one Monday morning, a friend came to me. She knew my heart, she knew that I really did want to serve the Lord. And she said, Guess what? Yesterday at church there was this mission group, and this couple shared that they’re missionaries, and they live on a boat, just like what you said!

And I thought, You know what, that can’t be a coincidence, that’s got to be God’s timing, God’s planning. So I checked into it, and it turns out, OM does have two ships, two boats. And I could live on a boat and purposefully serve the Lord.

So that’s how I first got connected with OM. I went and had intentions of going on one of OM’s ships. However, through strange circumstances, I’m not allowed to be on the boats. And that broke my heart. I went all the way to the different conferences, and was on my way to the boat when I found out that I couldn’t be on the boat. So I came home. I didn’t know what to do. I was totally broken. I was crying on the floor of my parents’ living room, knowing that God wasn’t a God of confusion, but I was confused. Here I was, I was ready to serve him, on my way to live on a ship, and I couldn’t go.

So I was praying, and crying out to God, What should I do? And he showed me a picture of high school, of history class. We were learning some history about how a country had got taken over. And I looked on the map, because I didn’t know where it was. And just me pointing my finger right there, God showed me that, and I knew that that’s where he wanted me to go, to serve him.
