My journey to the mission field #003
A teacher describes his journey to the mission field, from looking to settle down in the States to serving overseas.
My journey to the mission field #003
With our journey to the mission field, my wife and I were looking for land, we wanted to settle down and nothing was coming, and my wife said, "Let's seek God, and let's make sure this is what He has for us before we get locked into house and land, and a lot of financial obligations." So we started seeking God, and as we were seeking Him, He started putting stirrings in our heart to go to Black Forest Academy. I had my teaching degree, and we really felt like He was leading us to go there to teach and coach missionary kids.
When we were with Youth for Christ working with military kids, we got a tour of Black Forest Academy. And while we were there, we thought very much in our hearts, Wow, when our kids get older, this would be a great place to come work.
And so, we started looking into the openings, and there were openings, and as I talked with them, they were very interested in me, and we went through each step of the process — we had to pick our mission organization, we had to figure out what it would take in funding, we had to just a lot of little steps. And each step of the way, we said, "Lord, if this is where you want us, continue to open the doors." And He opened door after door after door, until finally, we were on the mission field.
