The topic of missionary preparation is daunting, and with this video we embark on a project that will hopefully make the process of getting overseas a little easier and quicker. We kick the series off with a little about God’s sovereignty and the importance of hands on ministry before serving cross culturally.
What can I do now to prepare for the mission field?
What are some things that should be done now, to prepare for being a missionary?
I would say the first thing is to have a real awareness that God is really sovereign, because there’ll be obstacles out there. There’ll be personal obstacles, that if I’m not aware that God really knows what he’s doing, I’m going to be discouraged and will give up.
Another thing that I think is really important is that people are doing ministry before they even go. I found that my best training was not through theological education, but was through the ministries that I was doing at the time, whether it was camp, Bible schools, even backpacking with young people. I learned a lot about dealing with people, and that helped me a lot, in ministry skills, and that I think is what many people are lacking before they go.
